The phrase “this generation” in the New Testament has significant eschatological implications which can only be understood through the second exodus promises – and warnings – in the Old Testament. Isaiah prophesied a second exodus for Israel, (11:11) which would bring the remnant into their inheritance. Moses reveals the punishment for those of that nation who would reject that second eschatological exodus (Numbers 32).
