Jesus’ “this generation” was the last-days-generation of Old Covenant Israel. Specifically, they were the last generation of the ethnic seed of Abraham that would ever exist as a covenant people of Yahweh. Jesus’ generation was the crooked and perverse generation that Moses said would come in Israel’s last days (Deuteronomy 32). Jesus’ generation had once again refused to be gathered into their inheritance through their second and spiritual exodus, and as a result were destroyed in the wilderness of Judaism. History had repeated itself. What had befallen the first generation of Judaism had also befallen the last, but what befell the last was far worse than the first (Mathew 12:43-45, 2 Peter 2:12-20), because a greater than Moses had been in their midst.
