For Paul, the rulers of the age in which he lived were the Jewish leaders who had “crucified the Lord of glory” (1 Corinthians 2:8). But, the Jewish leaders were the rulers of the Old Covenant age. In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians and in his letter to the Hebrews, he teaches definitively that the Old Covenant age did not end at the cross, but extended into the “New Testament times”, in which he ministered. It was about the “end” of that Old Covenant age that the disciples inquired (Mathew 24:3), and that Jesus said would be fulfilled within his generation (Mathew 24:34).
