Both scripture and history bear testimony to the fact that there appeared false Christ’s in Israel in Jesus’ own generation. Jesus specifically warned his first century disciples to not be led astray by these deceivers. Historically, these false Christ’s offered deliverance to Israel by claiming that God would free them from Roman oppression, and restore their national glory. But that was a false message. Jesus’ taught that Israel’s deliverance was to come through the destruction of their national glory, not by restoring it.
