Much of the modern day confusion surrounding Mathew 24 and the great commission is the result of a poor translation of the word “oikoumene”, translated as “world” in Mathew 24:14. In this video we compare several New Testament texts which use the same Greek word, and demonstrate that the “world” that is referred to in each of the texts does not refer to the “world” in global sense. Mathew 24:14 is no different. The gospel was to be preached onto all the “world” (the then-inhabited earth) before the end of the Old Covenant age could come. That first century commission was fulfilled prior to the end of the age in AD70.
