The message of the false Christ’s and false prophets was, “He is in the wilderness”. In Jewish history, the wilderness represented the place of deliverance from Egypt, where the Lord entered into “covenant union” with Israel. The message was clear, these deceivers were saying that by “going out” to Jehovah in the wilderness, Israel would once again be delivered from bondage, their new covenant stablished, and their geo-political kingdom restored. Jesus said, “do not believe them”. To look for Messiah in the wilderness, was to deny the gospel of the Kingdom, and the end of the Old Covenant age.
