In approximately 722 BC, Israel the Lord’s vineyard was judged and destroyed by the Assyrian army according to the word of the Lord through Isaiah the prophet. In Mathew 21:3-45, Jesus applied Isaiah 5 to the Jews of the first century generation who had produced nothing but “worthless grapes”. As Israel was judged by a foreign nation in Isaiah’s day, the Jews of Jesus’ day would see a similar same fate – only final – in their generation. This would take place at the Lord’s coming in judgment upon Jerusalem and the unfaithful of Israel in AD70.
