According to Zechariah, the mourning in Jerusalem in AD70 would be like the mourning over King Josiah, the righteous King of Judah who was slain by King Necho II of Egypt. At that time the “house of David” and the “house of Levi” would mourn. The mourning of these two families speak of the lament of those who desired a national restoration of the Old Covenant kingdom (the house of David) and priesthood (the house of Levi). Egypt (spiritual Egypt) had pierced the King of Righteousness in their pursuit of national restoration, for this they would mourn when those aspirations were shattered through the fall of their Old Covenant world in AD70.
