In the New Testament context of the Body of Christ being “built together into a dwelling of God by the Spirit”, it would be wise to understand Jesus’ promise to “come in the clouds of heaven” as the return of the covenantal presence and glory of Yahweh to his people. Wether tabernacle or temple, the presence and glory of the Lord filled the “house” through the manifestation of “the cloud” in the Old Testament. The same would be true in the New. The Son of Man would come in the heavenly cloud to bring salvation, to finish the work, and to fill His Temple with his glory.
