According to Isaiah 40, the second coming of Christ was to accomplish the Messianic regathering of Israel. But, both John the Baptist and Jesus placed the “gathering of Israel” (the gathering of the wheat/the elect) at the coming of the Son of Man and the close of the Jewish age to execute the wrath “about to come” upon that generation (Mathew 3:7-12, 13:30,39, 24:30-34). This can only mean that the coming of the Son of Man in Matthew 16:27-28 in fulfillment of Isaiah 40, prophesied the second coming of Christ, and must have been accomplished at the close of the Jewish age in AD70. A first century gathering of Israel proves a first century second coming of Christ.
