Jesus’ words in Mathew 16:27-28 refute the claim by Jehovah’s Witnesses that the kingdom of God of Daniel 7 has not yet been established in it’s consummated form. The “nature” of the kingdom must be determined in light of the time limitation which Jesus placed on it’s establishment. Since Jesus placed his “coming” and the full establishment of Daniel’s kingdom within the lifetime of his first century generation, we must understand the kingdom to be “spiritual” in nature, and as having been already consummated in Jesus Christ and the New Covenant.
