Jesus’ third symbolic act – the cursing of the fig tree – in Mathew 21 communicated to his first century generation that (1) old covenant Israel had come under the covenant-curse of God and (2) she was about to be destroyed as the enemies of God through the “last days exodus” in the time of their visitation (Mathew 21:18-19, Jeremiah 8:12-13, Luke 19:41-44).
