According to Isaiah, Israel’s restoration would take place when the Spirit was given to the Servant of the Lord. After receiving the Spirit (Luke 3:21-22), the Servant of the Lord brings forth healing to the “battered reeds” and relief to the “smouldering wicks” (Mathew 12:9-21). Jesus brought forth “justice to the nations”. Through the work of the Spirit in the ministry of Christ, Israel’s restoration had begun in the first century, in fulfilment of Isaiah 42.
