In Luke 24:49 (a parallel prophecy of Acts 1:8) Jesus promised his disciples the baptism of the Holy Spirit and described it as being “clothed with power from on high”, a direct quotation of Isaiah 32:15. But Isaiah 32:15f was a prophecy of the final restoration of Israel following their impending desolation by Babylon. This means that the baptism of the Spirit would be signify the fulfillment of Isaiah 32 and the Messianic restoration of Israel. And significantly, just like Isaiah, Jesus promised the imminent destruction of Jerusalem in his generation followed by the promise of the Spirit. Israel would be destroyed, yet the remnant would be restored when they were clothed with power from on high. This began to be fulfilled on the day of Pentecost!
