Isaiah predicted the restoration of his people the through the pouring out of the Spirit on those who were thirsty (Isaiah 44:1-5). Jesus told Israel that by coming to him their thirst would be satisfied, in fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied (John 7:37). According to the apostle John, the day of Pentecost was the fulfillment of both Jesus and Isaiah prophesied (John 7:39). By the receiving the Spirit, the remnant of Israel who thirsted for righteousness were satisfied. Pentecost was the sign that as the church, Israel’s promises of restoration were being accomplished.
