The pouring out of the Spirit upon the church – the remnant of Israel – on the day of Pentecost was in fulfillment of the salvation and restoration of Israel as prophesied in Joel 2 and Isaiah 2. Through the message of the gospel, all nations were coming to Mount Zion – the New Jerusalem – to be baptized in the Spirit for the forgiveness of their sins, that they might be saved. Pentecost was a powerful and definitive proof that Israel was being restored spiritually and covenantally in Christ, in the first century.
